An inspiring book that I really couldn't put down. The story of a little girl aged 5 who, because of her parents divorce, is sent on the orders of a judge to live in a church-run institution until she is 15. In all that time she sees her mother only once. Set in the 1930's the book is not only a good read, it's touching, sometime sad, and sometimes made me mad that anyone could be so unkind and unloving to children. The end of the book came way too quickly for me, although left me with a warm and fuzzy feeling that this little girl grew up and became a real success. The 'little girl' in the story is Heather - the author who, on the last page we learn is now 86. Cannot recommend this book enough. Not a 'chick book,' but one that anyone I'm sure will enjoy. I gave it 5 stars as it deserves it.

I'm almost finished with the book and it's been very interesting. One of those you can't wait to get back to.
